Three Different Interactions

There are three different interactions between people. They are passive, aggressive, and assertive. Passive interaction is when they are easy going towards a situation. Aggressive is when they are confrontational towards a situation. Assertive interaction is when they politely confront.

A situation where I had a passive interaction is when I had a short conflict with my mother. I was passive with our misunderstanding because well...she is my mother. And I do respect her. So by being passive, our conflict didn't last long.

A time where I had aggressive interaction was about a week ago when Ray Benson lost my indicators for math. I was aggressive in this situation because she misplaced about eight of my indicators. I worked hard on them and I need to finish math with a time limit of three weeks to graduate. So yes, I had to be aggressive and it helped. She found the missing worksheets and I phased up that day.

A situation where I had assertive interaction was when I had to ask my dad if I could do something. He's my dad and he's strict so , you know, I had to be polite.

Active Listening

There are two types of listening. One of these two is "active listening". Active listening is when you are paying attention, focused, and learning from whoever is speaking.

A time where I was actively listening was during the Juneau trip (Close-Up). A couple of students and I went on this trip to learn and experience the branches of law and sit in meetings with the state's senators, legislators, committee, and governor. Active listening was crucial during this trip. I didn't know a thing about government before going on this trip. I learned how a bill is formed and passed. I learned what positions there are in the judical branch. We also did activities. We contra danced, which was a first. We had to listen to directions from the Contra Instructor to form the dance. So there was active listening involved in that. We even went snowboarding, which was another first, so we were instructed by an experienced snowboarder. I ALMOST learned how, but I couldn't turn left or right.

3 Values

There are three values that are relationships, personal, and work.

Ranking them from 1-3, 1 being the most important, I would place Relationships as third.
I would mark the value relationship as least important because it could slow you down with school work. One example would be "distraction". While you are trying to get work done, a friend or significant other could be trying to have a conversation with you that would slow down your progress.

Number two would be the personal value. I think that it would rank second because without certain personal skills or abilities you wouldn't be able to form relationships. Relationships could be useful for some situations.

The most crucial value would have to be work. Without work, we wouldn't be able to pay for things such as bills, food, heating oil, gas, or transportation. Without these things we would be living in extreme poverty. Also, to have work we need excellent skills in relationship and personal values. That way, we could maintain a successful reputation at work and keep the job.

What I Expect To Learn In This Chapter

In this chapter, Decision Making Skills, I expect to learn about making decisions. I think this chapter is going to focus on teaching how to make good decisions. I also think it's going to help us weigh the good decisions over the bad. The chapter will probably have information on how to tell the difference from good choices and bad choices. I think this is going to be a helpful chapter for our future decisions.

DON'T DO IT!!!!(Advice for a friend that's suicidal)

What are you doing?! Step away from the edge of the cliff!!
There are many people that care about you. It is not worth taking your own life. Think about how your mother will think of you.
You don't want her to live the rest of her life thinking that she was a failure to her own child, don't you? She is going to think that way if you do go through with this crazy idea.
I know you are under a lot of stress and extremely depressed, but there are ways that that could be solved. If you do kill yourself you're going to put many of your loved ones under the same sadness.
I know that you think people don't care about you, but that is just you THINKING that they don't. They might not show any emotions towards you, but that doesn't automatically mean that it is true. You have a whole life ahead of you and you could do anything you desire if you just put some effort into it.
There is always a way to solve any problems that you have; just open your eyes. Don't do it.

2 and 5 ways.

I think that one good way to handle stress is to change your response to the stress. By improving your response, you could easily handle stress without overworking your body. One way to a better response would have to be relaxation. Or you could exercise to lower your stress level.
Another way that I think is a good way to handle stress is removing yourself from the stressful situation. Try not to hang out with bad influences or make bad decisions because it could lead you to stressful situations.

There are five ways you could reduce the negative effects of stress.
-RELAXATION, is a good way to reduce that negative effect you have from stress. Take a deeeeep breath. Slowly let it out. Now do you feel relaxed? Breathing exercises and muscle relaxation can reduce the tension in your body. You could tighten and then relax various muscles in your body whenever you feel tense.

-A HOBBY, is something you could use to help you relax. A hobby could be something that you love to do. Some examples are sewing, painting, sports, reading, or taking a walk. Finding a hobby could keep you from that tension.

-PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, is something that the body needs for various reasons. One of those reasons is for lowering the tension from stress. Make a schedule for physical exercises if it helps.

-EATING HEALTHY, is also important for the body for many reasons. Stressful situations sometimes effects the way you eat. A well-balanced diet can improve your ability to cope with stress.

-SLEEP, is what everyone needs. Like exercise and diet, sleep helps you feel your best during stress. Most people are grouchy when they are tired and might have negative feelings than a person who is rested.

Advice for Defense Mechanisms

PROJECTION-One advice I would give to someone who is using projection would be "stop blaming, your only hurting yourself." I would tell them that whoever they blamed it on would not want to be around them anymore. They wouldn't trust them with anything.

RATIONALIZATION-Stop making excuses. Grow up and be mature for once. It's all you.

DISPLACEMENT- By taking out your feelings on someone else, it'll only make that feeling worse. Like if you are angry and take it out on someone innocent, they'll probably get angry with you. Your just going to add more people onto your "I'm mad at you" list.
Don't want that now, do you?

CONVERSION- Take out your emotions instead of keeping it inside. It's very unhealthy to store all those feelings.

REGRESSION- How old are you? You're only going to make yourself look like a fool. Nobody wants to be around someone that age that acts like a child.

IDEALIZATION-No ones going to listen to you or care if you think that It's the best item ever.

FANTASY- Your going to have to do the work or go through the stress if you come back to reality anyway so get it over with now.

Selecting Friends

By choosing positive friends, It'll bring a positive attitude towards you. They accept you for who you are and help you to be happy with yourself. They can make you feel important by sharing interests, thoughts, and feelings. Friends that respect and encourage you with whatever choice you may have in life can help you build positive attitudes. Not all friends have positive attitudes, some will be negative. They may make you feel insecure and left out. Learning to handle your negative feelings in a positive way will help you cope when these negative times occur.

2 types of Stress

There are two types of stress; Normative and Crisis Stressors.
Normative Stress is everyday stress. Money, bills, teachers, jobs, tests, and hunger would be some examples of everyday stress. One normative stress for me would be waking up on time for school. I don't know why, but it's hard for me to be wide-awake in the morning. I tried going to bed early, but that just made me sleep in longer. One way I think would be a good way to handle this is getting a different bed. My bed is too comfortable for me and I guess that would be one of the many reasons that I cannot get up in the morning.

Crisis Stressors is long-term stress. Severe illness, death in family, jail time, or a divorce would be examples of crisis stress.
One crisis stress for me is probably the loss of my close cousin, Minnie. She was like my sister and the news brought great shock to our family. One way that we handled it was knowing that she was in a better place and letting her go.

3 Defensive Mechanisms

There are 8 defensive mechanisms that include
-Projection (push blame on someone else)
-Rationalization (excuses)
-Displacement (Take anger out on someone else)
-Conversion (emotion become physical problem)
-Regression (act like a little kid)
-Idealization (place high importance on item)
-Fantasy (imagine and try to escape problem)

Out of these 8 one of the 3 mechanisms that I experienced was Projection.
As I was growing up, I would get into a lot of trouble at times. I have a little sister and a little brother. One time, My mom just got done mopping up the floor. I tried making juice even if i was pretty small. I spilled the juice on the floor on accident. My mother got mad and asked what happened. I got scared and blamed it on my little sister. My mother just re-mopped the floor and let it go.

The second mechanism that I experienced was Rationalization. On some mornings, I am very, very tired. It would be my own fault because I would go to bed really late that night. One of my parents would wake me up and I would have an excuse ready for them. I would tell them that I have a headache, but really I just wanted to sleep in.

The last mechanism would have to be Conversion. I recently went on a school trip to Juneau. On one of the last days there, we had to show our project to everybody in the group. I didn't really want to go in front of everyone and start talking. So i sort of felt sick. I told the teacher to sit me out because I wasn't feeling well.

Intelligence Test

The results for the Intelligence Test that I took says that I am Linguistic which means that I am word smart. I would probably say that it is correct because I enjoy reading books and writing papers (besides that research paper that I haven't finished yet). I would also say that it is true because it has a higher percentage than the other results that include; interpersonal, musical, logical, intrapersonal, naturalistic. These are things that I probably wouldn't be good at. I don't play any instrument and I hate math. So yes, i would say that the results to the intelligence test is correct.

In 10 years...

In ten years i see myself as a successful woman with a good amount of businesses in Alaska. After saving up a lot of money, my dream is to travel the world. I would never settle in one place so I would probably own many houses in different countries. I want to write books one day so in ten years I might be a best selling author. I would like my life to be carefree after hiring trustworthy people to manage my businesses. If i get bored of doing nothing i'd probably go back to college to earn a degree in primary education or an administrative degree. I want to be the boss of many things so I won't have any bosses myself. That way, I could do anything I want. If i get tired of being around teachers and children all day I could see myself as a photographer. Maybe a photo journalist. I can't really make up my mind, so in ten years, you'll either see me as a business owner, author, teacher, principal, photographer, or a photo journalist. Unless there is someone that pays for my way around the world and pay me for it. Then that'll become my career.

Introducing Myself

My name is Danielle Dawn Kashatok but everyone that knows me call me Anguu. My heritage is central Yup'ik and I've never left Alaska, yet. Anguu isn't my Yup'ik name which everyone mistakes it to be. My Yup'ik name is actually Qikertaugaq. I'm named after my late uncle, Daniel Kashatok. I was born on the 10th of August in Bethel, Alaska to Ernest and Bernadette Kashatok. I have four brothers and two sisters including two nieces. I am a senior at the moment and have a huge possibility of graduating this May. After high school, I plan to attend college somewhere in Alaska. I would like to major in Business Entrepreneurship and open up a few businesses in this coastal region. I am currently employed as a clerk at the Kashatok Brother's Store which is owned by my grandmother, Katie. I have been working there for about five years now. I don't get any special family treatment over there if that's what your thinking. I get paid the same amount as any other clerk there. I have big dreams for my future and hope that I'll accomplish them one day. Right now, I am just a student trying to finish up my work to graduate.

Goals

My five short term goals would have to include being on time for school and work, graduate this coming May, work on scholarships, go to college, and prove motivation.

-I plan to be on time for school and work by stop being lazy.
-To graduate this coming May i will need to pass all my classes this semester. To pass all these classes I'm going to work more often and be on time.
-I'm going to start working on scholarships before the Spring because i think that is when the deadlines are.
-Before I graduate, I'm going to apply to many Alaskan colleges I can and hope that i get accepted considering all my bad grades.
-I'm going to try to be motived to finish my school work because I think that I lack a lot of motivation or maybe it's just plain laziness.

My long term goal would have to be me being successful.
-To accomplish my long term goal I'm hoping that I'm going to go to college and actually graduate from there. Come back to Kipnuk and have a super high-paying job. Make money without actually having to do anything. Maybe someone could pay me for watching T.V. That's what i would call success.
